Introducing Northeastman Film Stocks
Two of our favorite film stocks, now more affordable, and sustainable.
Acadia 100
Acadia 100 is a medium speed color film. It’s natively an E6 reversal, or slide film. However it can also be cross processed in C41 chemistry, which yields a high contrast negative. This makes Acadia 100 a go anywhere, do anything color film! Typical applications are fashion, portraits, landscape, table-top, architecture, or travel photography.
-
When processed in E6 chemistry, Acadia 100 yields extremely accurate color, very fine grain, and low contrast. Skins tones appear natural, detail is finely rendered, and very high enlargements can be achieved.
-
When processed in C41 chemistry, Acadia 100 yields an extremely high contrast negative, with vivid color and strong grain. Shadows become deep, highlights are delicate, yet detail is still finely rendered. Typical applications would be dramatic portraits or fashion, as well as street photography.
-
When shooting in E6, a slightly warming filter such as a “Skylight 1A” filter is highly recommended. This film will push with good results up to 2 stops. When cross processing, expose for the shadows and tell the lab you intend to run the film in C41.
Woods & Waters 250
Woods + Waters 250 is a medium speed, classic B&W film. This film is an emulsion with a traditional grain pattern. It has a legendary tonal scale with delicate reproduction of highlights and shadows. It responds well to standard developers such as XTol, D76, or HC110, as well as alternatives such as 510-Pyro. Typical applications are portraits, reportage, street photography, fine-art, and travel.
-
Woods and Waters, in our chemistry, is a true 250 ISO film. You will get good density with full shadows. Highlights will roll off smoothly. Shoot all day and into the evening with this ‘just right’ speed.
-
Because this is a classic emulsion, the grain is present but pleasing to the eye. It makes itself known, but does not overpower the image. Control the look of the grain with developers such as 510-Pyro for very fine grain, or Rodinal for a stronger, sharper edge.
-
Do not under expose without pushing. Rate at 250 when using XTol or D76, or when sending to Northeast Photographic for processing. However, this versatile stock can be experimented with and will stand up to variations in development or technique, have fun with it!
